有日佢放學問:
S: how do you pledge to the flag?
M: you look at it and say the pledge.
S: how do you say the pledge?
M: I don\'t know.
S: your teacher taught you when you were in elementary school, right?
M: nope
S: why?
M: I didn\'t go to school here. Besides, I am not American.
S: oh.... Should I tell my teacher that my mommy is not American? Would she think I am adopted?
I am not against pledging to the flag at all. I am just surprised at how children can come up with answers nowadays.
And I told my co-workers about this. Their reaction is: Well... your kids were born here right? You are an American now and you should learn.
Unfortunately, I know how to sing "God saves the Queen." but not the national anthem here or china.
I don't know, still debating whether to naturalize. I am happy to be a Brit.
I\'m a public school teacher in CA. well, if you don\'t want your son to pledge the allegiance, send the home room teacher an email and inform him/her about it. It would still be a sign of respect to have your son to stand while others are saying the pledge though.
he is in catholic school, opting out is not an option. He has to pledge and ask god to bless America every morning.😊
