if your baby is born here in Ontario, the hospital should give you a temporary health card (it is actually just a piece of paper). You can use that to take your baby to the doctor for shots.
Birth certificate and the actual health card did take a while to come. Around 2-3 months. Once you got the birth certificate, you still need to apply for the SIN# and passport. Another few weeks....
