My mother have Cataract operation the end of last year, $15000/eye for operation, $800 the checking the eyes at the Hospital and about $6000 for the use of surgery. She done it at Canossa Hospital and by a famous Eye Doctor at Central. Operational fee may vary from patients.
Operation time about 30 min. cannot be done at the same time but can book to be done next week.
There are 2 kinds of lenses the petient can choose , traditional ones which are like short-sighted lens or long-sighted lens. They correct our eyesight for viewing far object or near object. But may need to use reading glasses when reading.
New type of lens which acting like 漸進鏡 we wear so no need to wear any glasses after the surgery but the lens are very expensive , according to my Mum's doctor said it worths more than $5000 each. and the surgery must be done in 1 week's time so the patient can get use to the new lens as soon as possible.
The operation is painless, and my mother need no bandage or covering the eye. She have to use eye drop every 2/3 hours on the first day of the surgery and recall the doctor the next day. And the eye should not get in touch of water for a few days. The doctor will tell you what to do when you recall. No need to worriy.
For Public hospital, waiting time is long if the patient is not in urgent need. The patient need to buy their lenses if they can afford them. And the lenses will cost more than $1000. The hospital will check what lense the patient needed and will order it for your, just prepare the money when they tell you. If patient can't afford the lens I think you can tell the doctor and they will refer you to the social worker at the hospital who can help. Of cause the waiting time maybe longer for approval of the assitance. ( My colleague told me about the process of Public Hospital and may have changed since this is a few years' ago )
