maid steals not valuable stuffs, what will you do?

My maid (Indonesian) came in mid-april, she is so-so in terms of baby caring and cleaning and cooking, but recently I found that there are somethings lost in my house e.g. can food, soft drinks, snacks and baby's toys.

Last sunday, I intentionally asked her to open her handbag before she left the house for her rest day, I found that all the missing things are in her bag. She seems like not feeling guilty and said "Oh! I can't eat those food ga?" I was mad. But husband told her, "well, you can eat, but you have to let us know before you eat loh" But actually, I don't think the maid can eat everything in the house, my husband gave wrong message to her and i corrected him after that.

To me, even she is allowed to eat, it does not means she can bring the food out, am I too mean? And I am expecting that she should thank me for providing food to her even on her rest day. But so far, she seems like take that for granted and does not thank me at all.

Besides, she stole my babie's toy (a hello kitty chain and a dog chain), that is even bad lah.

How can I give her a lesson but not upseting our relationship ne?

She needs to take care of my 2 girls (2 and 3 yrs old), I am a full time mum but I go out often to buy food or do exercises.

Pls advise.

No, you surely are not mean, very reasonable expectation & requirement to maid wor！

It's a right time to brief your maid firmly, even with warning. So that, let your maid know She Did Wrong. Her act is equal to a THIEF！！

If not warning her this time & without further continous checking/monitoring to your maid, she must think that:
1. 睬妳都傻！
2. 老闆耐我唔何！
3. 老闆比我head住！

無論係偷什麼, 都係唔應該, 叮佢走啦, 小朋友除了父母外, 最多接觸的人可能係你的工人, 很多人都話要身教, 咁你擔唔擔心日後你工人同你小朋友出街時, 你的工人同你小朋友話"羅"別人的東西唔算偷?

當你找到你的食物及玩具時, 佢一些內疚都無, 佢根本無悔意, 唔好同情佢啦, 日後家中可能有更大的損失

actually, she is my 4th maid, for the past 3 maids, 2 of them also had record of stealing things, I just give them one chance, if they steal again, no more excuse and I would fire her.

I don't know whether it is their "culture" or their low education, seems like stealing things from employer is part of their job.
