Pretty_Girl,
yes, it is true that you must go to your family doctor in order to refer to 婦科醫生.
It may be very different from HK but this is the rule here. Besides, you also need to go to nearby hospital. Women Hospital only accept patient who live in Vancouver area, not Burnaby.
I gave birth in HK so I didn't know alot about having a BB in Canada. But I came back to Canada when I was 3 mths pregnant at that time just for a vacation. I went to my family doctor and he referred me to do ultra sound and also did blood tests and stuff. If you have your Care card, I think those will be free. No worries, your family doctor will be able to guide you through all the time.
Pretty_Girl,
It is normal for not getting a family doctor as we have shortage of family doctor throughout Canada. You can go to any walk-in clinic and have them to refer you. As I said before, you must have a doctor to refer you. My OB is very good one but she only work in Burnaby area and work with Burnaby hospital, so I dont think you would like it.
Just try to find a doctor to refer you as I believe finding an OB is not that hard as birth rate in Canada still very low.
Maybe you can go to more clinics as xother said. Try to to go other walk in clinics and see. I'm sure one can referr you. If so weird that the doctor you've seen doesn't referr you.
Even if she is a Vietnamese, if she is a good doctor who cares. There are alot of good Vietnamese ppl here too. It's not good to be racist against other nationalities. Or your child will be racist also when he/she grew up. Pls try to understand there are good ppl and bad ppl in all nationalities.
I really dont think she is Vietnamese. May be just how they spell "Chan" to "Tran" long long time ago. Or you can call and ask the receptionist there. However, she is a good doctor.
Jenet Sun is my family Doc and she helped me when I gave birth to myson this January. My son weighed almost 10 pounds when he wasborn, tho, I gave birth natually and my wound recovered verysoon. Go ask your family Doc, he/she should know about thisDoctor too. But you have to check whether she will accept newpatients or not first.

not sure if you have found a doc yet. I just gave birth in Vancouver in May and my doc is also Margaret Tran. She might be Vitnamese but you couldn't tell by her look, it's not like "vitnamese vitnamese". She probably grew up in North America.
I was referred to her last Sept when I found out I was pregnant. She wasn't my family doctor back then but now I have transferred myself to her. She is a good doctor, very experienced and pretty passionate. I feel very comfortable seeing her and have my baby taken care by her.
Hope this helps if you haven't decided who to go to yet.
