據統計，本港有一成兒童都患上濕疹，發病時痕癢難當，徹夜難眠，然而傳統治療藥物含有類固醇，長期使用可以引致皮膚變薄、微絲血管擴張，甚至青光眼等副作用。醫療界逐研發出一種新的非類固醇外用藥膏，大大減少副作用，適合小孩長期使用。

半數周歲前發病

香港大學醫學院兒科學系榮譽副教授譚一翔解釋，濕疹是一種具遺傳性的慢性皮膚炎症，常會反覆發作，皮膚會出現痕癢、紅斑或脫皮等，通常會在嬰兒的面頰、手肘和兒童的內膝及雙手等地方出現，半數兒童患者會在一歲前發病，不少嬰兒發病時痕癢難當，徹夜啼哭，令家長也無法入睡。

他指出，傳統治療濕疹的常用藥物為外用類固醇軟膏，長期使用可有副作用，尤其是塗抹臉上濕疹，長遠或會引致青光眼和白內障。

不含類固醇可長用

市面去年開始推出兩種不含類固醇的外用藥「選擇性抗炎胞質激素抑制擠」，適合長期使用，副作用只是塗搽部位微暖或灼熱，持續用幾天便會逐漸消失，但是藥效較輕，如要對付嚴重濕疹，仍需使用類固醇。

譚教授表示，濕疹是由先天過敏體質，加上後致敏原的刺激如食物：牛奶、雞蛋和花生，或接觸塵

Yesterday, I have already go Dr.Tam Medical Centre, But my son is not see Dr.Tam, he see the Dr.Leung (same clinic).
And the Dr.Leung also suggest my son to try this new eczema cream. May be I need to take 2 week to see this eczema is workable or not. If this cream have good effective, I will share the experience in this topic

My son has used the new cream already, ELIDEL, it is very good but expensive.. In Europe is about 40euro, HK$360..

Hi yukkie ,

I have heard about this new cream from my family doctor before, but my son is now using "

rotopic". This cream is made from Japan and it's about HK$400... very expensive. I think my son's eczemas problem is pretty serious and the cream didn't really control the eczemas. Therefore, I have put some cream that contains steriod... I know it's bad for him but he couldn't sleep well... How often have to use the cream?

Did you get this information from the MTR newspaper today? I have read this article... and I bought this cream, but it's seem not really effective to my son. My son is only 2 months old and the eczemas is bothering him for almost a month already. As I am aware of that most of the eczemas cream contain steriod, therefore I didn't put any cream on him and now his problem is getting worst. Therefore, the doctor suggested me to buy the cream called "

rotopic" and made from Japan, and now he only used it for a week, I will see if the cream is working effectively. If so, I will share to all parents which have the same problem as me...

It is a good news to hear that new drugs are being launched for treatment of eczema, namely Protopic and Ediel.

Protopic is a topical form of an immunosupressant called tacrolimus which is a oral drug used in solid organ transplantation like kidney transplantation/ liver transplantation. Elidel is a drug of similiar mechanism of action but specially designed for skin application.

They have about 5 years of experience of using this drug world wide, mainly in clinical trials setting involving about 1000 or more children.

Mind you that it is approved by FDA of USA for use of ezema in child age > 2years. In the other words, it is not recommended for use under age of 2 years.

As data for child use less than 2 years still not large enough. Infants ( 3months to 2 years) on Eidel has some increase in incident of adverse effect, refer to http://www.pharma.us.novartis.com/product/pi/pdf/elidel.pdf
Read the comment on last paragraph at page 9.

Still, there is much unknown about this drug concerning its safety especially in child age less than 2 years.

Steroid creams are not monster. Just like a knife which can do good and harm. With judicious use of steroid cream by experineced doctor, it is still very useful. For eczema that is very severe and resistant to steroid cream, these drugs certainly offer hope to us.
