hi all NY mama
I am new working mom in NY, just came US 4 years ago from HK, and have a baby girl near 5 months

My mother came 1.5 years ago with F4 visa and just diagnosed with Kidney disease (when my baby is only 1 month old)
husband is taking exam till the end of this month
Andwith other family problems, I am super busy not really have time to internet, besides my written english is soso (and no time to install chinese writing board) pls dont mind

A quick question:
considering buying the "baby you can read" ? is that useful ? can the baby really response to the DVD or word card, ok to start with a near 5 moths old ? my baby is like to tear magazine and eat everything on hand, the delux pack is almost US$130, I don't want to waste if it is not cost efficient

Please give me advice, thanks
(pls don't mind if I don't hv much time to reply on this board)

our home is lead exposure and we moved the baby to relative for temporary stay this Sunday, I miss her so much

If you are a working mom, and you do not live with your infant, I don't suggest you to use your baby can read..
it is a bonding (between baby and parent/caregiver) program.. which you need to use it everyday, constantly.
you need to sit with your infant every day and do it on regular base.
you can go online and view the demo.

firstly, you need to figure out the reason you wanna use it?
if you just want to give something for your infant to see, and have some fun time.. not insist to train a baby to read or speak.. you don't necessary to buy it. you can just go to Costco, get the baby einstein.. 12-15 DVD, that is much easy.. care giver (if you are not the one who watch with your infant) doesn't need to involved too much but which is even more expensive .. about $100-150.. I can't remember..
For sure, many infants starts the program by about 3 months, at their 10 months old, they recognise words (and their parents work with their infants every night)..

I did not let Amanda to use your baby can read until 3 years old, she starts baby einstein when she was 3 months, then we show her disney mickey mouse club house when she was 1, Direct TV --293 channel baby 1st TV since she was 2. your baby can read book from she was 3, all different DVD and CDrom program after 3..

I was a child care worker before I became a RN.. so I will just teach her and introduce her the appropiate program when I can feel that her development is ready.

For my younger son.. I only use the letter books, color books from your baby can read, for DVD, I still use the baby einstein.. I don't want to rush.. just let this lil guy enjoy his childhood.

Hi. I got a 11 months old. I let her watch baby einstein since 2 month. Kind of like it. Usually it keeps her busy for 20 min, then I can go do my work. And she response to music very well right now. U dont have to buy the whole set tho. For example, I bought her baby einstein "baby's first move", but since we speak chinese at home, those "up/down" in the DVD are meaningless to her. Right now we let her watch Tigger and Pooh, Mickey Mouse Club House, and Elmo.

How old are your 2 kids?
Because we found out our home has Lead exposure last week, although not very serious, my hubby insist to move my baby to his Aunt’s

We are looking for another apartment and will move after he finish exam this month.
Then, I will spend time watch DVD and reading word card with her after work, so please help me to buy a Deluxe set(big value?!) of ”Your Baby can read” when you get the discount, thank you thank you, let me know how to pay you in advance

In the meantime, while I am not living with my baby, I hope that our relative can play the Baby Einstein for her,

which one of Baby Einstein do you recommend if not buying whole set, is the whole set mean 12-15DVD around $1XX like Nillie said??? I checked One single DVD cost around $15 on Amazon
Are the “Tigger and Pooh, Mickey Mouse Club House, and Elmo” =DVD cartoon ?

Besides, Does the Local TV channel has “Sesame Street”, I remember when I was kids, I watch once or twice on “TVB Pearl” this is the only English baby program that I know, I don’t realize that some many new baby stuff(DVD, word card…) has come to the market

So after we move to am new apartment, should I get direct TV (with Chinese channel for my mother) or Cable TV ?does it has any baby program?
Is the Direct TV --293 channel purchase as a package?

Sorry for so many questions, maybe I am just overanixety with a new baby

In the morning (around 8am?) there are Mickey Mouse Club House and other educational cartoons free on TV. Those you dont need to buy otherwise it becomes quite expensive.

for Baby Einstein, you can also consider getting them from eBay ... there are some sellers who sells the whole set (25 DVDs) at a bargainable price ... i bought one set and it's only $50 (free shipping) ...

the DVDs are also from Disney ... so far they play ok ... no problem ... my Terence likes them, too

chanel 13 has sesame street and other kid's programs in the morning for free. we're using time warner, they hv noggin chanel #129 all day & night for 24hrs for kids program w no commercials. thats the reason why we re struggling if we should switch cus i want to watch some tvbs..

my elder one is 4.5, and younger one is 16 months.
hum.. as we live in US, about study English.. I am not crazy about it.. in fact, I would rather let them to watch Baby einstein when they are baby.. I did not introduce any cartoon to them before 1 years old.. Gabriel may watch cartoon when Amanda is at home.. but most of the day, when he wanna watch something.. that is only baby einstein-- like baby mozart, baby bach, baby beethoven, language nursery, by 9 months then, you can introduce baby galileo..
go to Costco then you can get the package discount.
also, you may try to go to youtube, some of the version is free.. but then, you need to sit with your infant in front of the monitor which is no good.
Direct TV -- 293 is a purchase channel, with family package plus $4.95 per month, really depends.. if you believe that it worths but I did..
but Amanda is out growth.. and Gabriel is not ready, so we cancel it for now.. when Gabriel is about 2, that will be the time to purchase it again.
reseach said that, infant before 2 will not be good to watch seasame street alone. because it cause some trouble with speech development a while ago.. anyway, your baby is under one, if you don't want to buy the DVD yet.. may be you can just come to my house, borrow some DVD and have a look first.
I will call your baby can read if I can get any discount.. they ship the package some CA.. so I will need your address, so they can ship it to your home directly if you made up your mind.

BTW, I am looking for a NEW apartment to move since my home has Lead exposure(I really miss my daughter)
So I don’t have a delivery address until I found one, my mother want to live near Chinese food market, so that she can have fresh fish
