$18k should be under no claim protection for most policy? or does it not include paying third party damages?
you have no choice but let the insurance company pay for it in this case, since the amount is not resonble. or you can try to talk to him and say come on? just take it to outside garage fix it, whatever the cost you pay $2000 more as his compenstation, doubt it will be over $4000 if fixed outside and he gets $2000 cash and ask him if he really want his brand new car to have a crashed repair record logged with BMW?
