Which doctors do you choose for your kids and yourself near Milpitas? Any recommendations?

Hi little_angle,

My kid goes to Dr Kenneth Kwong Yau in N San Jose (get off at McKee on 680). He is from Hong Kong, very nice and humorous person and we're pretty satisfied with him. His office number is (408) 254-8828 if you're interested in speaking with him/his staff.

As for myself, I go to Dr. Natalie Chang (408 347 2110). Her office is next to the Regional Hospital off Jackson (again, get off at McKee on 680). She's pretty ok I guess, I have no complaint about her, though sometimes the wait in the doctor's office can be quite long...which I think is typical for a lot of doctors.

Hope this helps.

i think dr. yau personally tries to be nice to us; however, i don't like him to easily give the kids antibiotics even if it might not be necessary. maybe that's the normal practice of the doctors from HK?

once we brought our son to see him as he threw up several times in the middle of the night on Fri after he ate some grapes and drank milk and we couldn't get an appt with our current pedi. dr. yau had prescribed some medication to stop his vomitting. however, without taking any medication, he's completely fine the next day.

also, he always gave antibiotic to any friend's son when he had greenish runny nose, but it didn't help. on the other hand, our pedi said it's not necessary that the kid needs antibiotics when s/he has greenish/yellowish runny nose.

i think people see him becoz they feel more comfortable speaking cantonese during doctor visit.

Oh really?! So far there're only a couple times we have taken our kid to him due to sickness (knock on wood!) and one of these times he gave our kid antibiotic prscription cuz he had running nose and some flu-like symptoms. While it's not recommended that kids get antibitics too easily, to us that was more or less the only option as our kid went to home care with two other kids and we really didn't want them to get sick because of our son

So SY_Mom, who's your son's pediatrican and do you recommend him/her?

HoneyBee30,

that's what i meant - dr. yau usually likes to prescribe antibiotics to young kids even if it might not be necessary. usually antibioitics won't help common cold as it won't help killing viruses. and u know ... unnecessary antibiotics won't help and it's harmful to the young kids.

i like my current pedi as he won't prescribe antibiotics to the kid unless it's proven that it's really bacterial infection. there was once that my son got a fever of 105 F, but he still didn't give him antibiotics as it's confirmed that it's not bacterial infection per the tests so antibiotics wouldn't help. eventually his fever was completely gone in abt 5 days without taking any antibiotics.

our pedi is dr. shen. his office is closed to santana row in san jose. we like him so far but his office is really busy and expect to stay there for a couple hours for a visit with appointment. let me know if u want me to pm u his contact info.
