We are looking for babies and their parent(s) to come to our centre at CUHK to volunteer in our studies. If you live in Hong Kong and have a baby around 9 month old, we invite you to come to the Centre to take part.
About us
The experiments are run by teams of students and graduate research assistants who work under Professor Him Cheung from Psychology Department in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Prof. Cheung has a doctorate degree in psychology from the University of Kansas.
What are the studies like?
All of our studies are designed to be enjoyable and easy for the baby. Your infant will sit on your lap in front of a small stage and watch events on the stage. We will show two test events: one possible and one impossible. When infants find an event surprising, they tend to look longer at that event. There are two observers who monitor how long the infant looks at each event. We also take video of the baby’s performance for a record after your permission.
What are the studies about? And what are they for?
Our studies examine babies’ development of mental understanding. We are not interested in the performance of individual baby, but rather the patterns in performance across large numbers of babies. Our studies help other psychologists, scientists, and educators understand the development of social reasoning. In particular, we examine how infant's ability to take someone else's perspective (e.g., their ability to think about what someone else is thinking) influences their responses to others. When the studies are completed we write up the findings in scientific journals. We do not report any names or personal information in publications resulting from our research. The only information that is reported is about general patterns across large numbers of babies.
How long do the studies take?
Most of our studies involve only one 30-minute visit. Although depending on the specific condition of the baby a visit might last between 20 minutes and an hour. We can schedule visits on weekdays or weekends, at your convenience.
How do I participate?
If you and your child would be interested in participating in our studies, or if you would like to know more, please feel free to contact us by replying to this post or pm me.
