I used it last year when my daughter was around 8 months old. I used only for the first few times to make sure she didn't poo poo. I think if she pee, it would be ok.
The swimming diaper is thin after wet, but normal diaper is very thick. I suggest you buy one bag (3 should be enough). After your baby is used to the swimming environment, you can use swimming suit.
