How long have you been trying? My son took about 1 week to complete the process.
Here are my procedures for your reference:
1. Before start, already told him all the time to let mama, grandma, or the maid knew when he wanted to vv.
2. Bought half dozen of pants for changing.
3. Starting on the first day, no diaper during day time and asked him to vv regularly. If he wetted the pant, changed the pant and told him to let mama know next time gently and kept on the regular procedures.
4. Be patient and consistent. When he did it right, encourage him by giving him one of his favor candy or toys.
For sure, at the beginning, you will have a lot of wet pants in your laundry bag!
be patient! we have trained my son since Aug but still not success yet. He is not allowed to wear diaper at school and also diaper free at home. Even we took him to wee wee every half hour, he still has no sign of knowing how to express the feeling until 2 days ago. He starts to recognise he has the need and will took us wee wee though most of the time he had already made his pants wet, at least he started to understand it and tell us. Hopefully I don't need to wait too long, too. Add oil together!

may i share my experience here. hope it would help.
before we started the training, both me and my hubby as it is important that my hubby to help as my child is a boy. we have been telling him that "big" people always use toilet and we don't wear diaper. We took him to the toilet with us and he was really curious at first. At the same time we put a potty in his bath room for him to use.
soon after a while then he doesn't want to wear diaper as "big" people doesn't use diaper. then he started to use the potty as that is how "big" people do the business. ( i also refer our toilet as potty) soon as he gets use to using the potty then he was not using diaper at all. we stop using diaper during the day when he was about 2 years 9 months.
then it cames with night diaper. we stop using night diaper when he turned 3 years old. although sometimes we have accident, but most of the time he is good.
he goes to bed at 7:30pm and i would wake him up and go to potty at around 10:30 pm, then he would sleep until 7:00am in the morning. last few months, we stop the milk before he goes to bed (change the milk to morning) then he doesn't even wake up for the night wee wee.
the whole training has been a year now and he could wake up and wee wee by himself then go back to sleep by himself too. so be patient, it took me a good 1 year to achieve the outcome.
