The maid works for my mum for just 5 years. We have renewed her contract last year (after working for 4 years), and we want to fire her before her second contract expires (her 2nd contract will expire in Jun 2009).
Apart from the long service fee, what other fees do I need to pay if I want her to work till Dec 2008? If I give her 1 month prior notice, do I still need to pay her 1 more mth salary? So regret not to fire her when 4 years contract expires so we don't have to waste $15k on the long service fee.
She actually has no performance at all. She just hide inside her own room 12 hrs x6 days to talk over the phone. Even if we call home or ding the door bell, she would not answer or open the door for us. When we asked her not to talk over the phone while cooking, she just gave us a glance, then closed the kitchen door, and continued to talk talk talk. This is a helpless maid, all my family members (8 of us, but only my parents live with the maid) hate her!
We all actually treat her good and never scold her, my mum sometimes even treat her better than me! However, in this year, her attitude changes.
I think you terminate the contract, your yan yan will have a bad record of working experience.
The sump-sum is almost the same given to yan-yan 1)this year end to terminate or 2) complete the contract (Jun-2009). If you choose option 1, I think one month notice in advance to her (saving one wage), your condition is getting more dangerous. She can add something to the food or .......
Simply wait until the contract end or unless you find her a great mistake (e.g. stolen your inventory...) Sometimes, verbal warning is necessary for immediate measure.
Thanks for all your advice. Maybe we should just ask her leave without giving 1 mth prior notice, pay her 1 more mth salary+the long service fee. If she knew we don't renew her contract next year, she could still do smthn bad to us (e.g. put poison in our food).
Our maid always thought we will use her forever, because my mum treats her good and has high tolerance level, however, it's not the case. I am sure she will not expect we will terminate her.
She deserves to have bad record, we will definitely not recommend her to other employers because she just know how to enjoy her life at our home (turn on all air con while we are not at home, cook special dishes for herself at our expense even at lunch, overspend (or dar fu tau) the dinner $ my mum gave her all the times without leaving a cent).

Yes, she's 持熟賣熟, because my mum 太過"仲"她 in the first few years. However, her performance was quite good, that's why my mum likes her and "仲"她. It's ok to give her better life (like she has TV in her room) if she performs good.
