Yes, you need the Citizenship before you can apply for passport. I've applied Citizenship for my daughter back in 2006, it took around 3 months. And passport i think was about 2 weeks.

I applied citizenship card in Hong Kong, they said it will take 9 months to process.

在香港申請canadian citizenship要9個月才收到card,如bb要出國可替bb申請 canadian passport但passport只有一年期,待到你收到bb citizenship card後可將passport續期多四年(只須付hk1xx元,不用再填form)

May I know what documents for my bb girl 11 months?
I am not citizen of Canada,but my husband. I think my bb is qualified for application of citizenship. However my husband is working in HK and non-residents of Canada.

If my bb applies for SAR passport, she cannot get the Canadian passport or she can get both two passports?

Please let me know because I book for the SAR passport application in July 12.

咁係咪bb末有canadian citizenship 己經可以申請canadian passport????
如果bb係香港出世,有香港出世紙,佢father係canadian citizen,
咁bb係咪耍等到申請倒citizenship 先可返canada 呢???
可唔可以快d帶bb返canada 呢?

係~~ 要有citizenship 咭先可以申請passport。
BB 去Canada 可以用特區護照, 我個仔第一次去Canada 都係用特區護照。

吾會~~ 我同你個case 一樣, 得老公有Canadian passport, 你地諗住吾返黎呀 ? 我地去Toronto, 我吾知第2個省會吾會吾同, 不過吾怕,佢地講人權, 吾會要老婆仔女分開, 佢地對familyunion 最重要

I'm a new Canadian mommy in HK. I just helped my little prince apply for Canadian citizenship. It doesn't matter if you are a resident/non-resident, as long as one of the parent is Canadian then the baby can become Canadian (with all the required documents ie. baby's birth cert, parent(s) citizenship and 2 photo ID). The current time that it takes to process is 9-12 months. However if you need the Canadian passport as the travelling document, they will issue a 1 year passport (special) if you have your flight ticket/itinerary. Once the citizenship card is out then you can request to extent the passport to the regular 3 year expiry.

Canada accepts its citizen to have more than one citizenship so I think your baby will definitely be allowed to use HKSAR passport to enter Canada.

It takes 3 weeks to process, but they do need an itenary or flight ticket information to prove that you and your baby is definitely travelling in order issue this one temp passport.
