My baby is 15 months old now. He went to playgroup since 6 mths old. Now he goes to playgroup twice a week, one is mandarin n one is english. He can talk a lot n communicate w us by simple words. I guess playgroup do help his development.
It's good to hear that your child can speak simple words. What does he usually say? My Yu Yu still cannot communicate with us. She speaks a lot but we don't understand at all. What's the language you communicate with you child, english or mandarin or cantonese? Yu Yu speaks quite slow due to bilingual languages, do you think so?
We mainly use English because I don't know how to speak Mandarin. He can talk a lot n inmitate what we said too. He can say more than 100 words like cold, eat,go,play, pen, black, red, blue, more, mami, dada,EE etc. B4 he can talk,we taught him sign language that make him more easy to communicate w us. It is good for him to talk more to express his needs n feeling that my son rarely cry n having attitude towards us. My son can understand cantonese but not as much as English.
Wa.....too unbelievable for a boy to speak over 100 words at his 15 months old. Usually boys can speak at nearly 3 years old. I think you use a valid method to teach your son. Can you share how you teach your son to learn so many words? My girl has a elder sister but she doesn't want to listen to others. She will open the book and close again. She just wants to play and make sounds to fun herself. She is sensitive with the music and follow her movement to the music everytime when she hears the music. However, we really want she can speak as early as possible. Please share your experience. Thanks.
I am also a new mom but just read some parent guide books n ask my maid to do it for me in day time.
May be I can share my case but don't know is it work or not on yr baby. Starting he is 6 months olds, I brought him to playgroup to see the flash card n bought Disney World of English for him to watch at home in day time(poor me still paying it till now but it is worth to see him have progress). I never have babytalk to him n treat him as adult. When we go out, I will tell him what surrounding him like taxi, bus and we go to supermarket I will show him all the fruits are n he knows it at that time even he not start talking yet. I never force my son to read books n he likes watching DVD cartoons like Barneys, Finding Nemo, Monster Inc, Thomas n Friends etc but I asked my maid to let him at least read books with him 5 minutes a day, n play some flash cards with him too. I believe every baby have potentials n it doesn't matter she talks earlier or not. Don't worry about it. BTW, my son also love music but he likes disco or hip hop music instead of classical music because he will fall asleep when he listens classical one.
Sometimes I find that it is quite bored by using a book to teach my son too n I guess so do the baby too. May be it is good to teach him through daily life activities. Like go to the park, supermarket, street, anywhere is a tools. Just share with you my personal experience n I believe there are so many great moms have some smart way to train their babies too.
It's happy to know that your son can follow your method to learn. I really hope my Yu Yu has patience to do so but unlucky, she only wants to go out always.
I am really worry about Yu Yu as she still cannot communite with us. She will not follow us to speak or try to speak. We let her see Disney, she runs away after hearing the first song. We read books to her and she closes our books. We read flash card to her, she puts back all the cards to the box. She just likes eating and dancing.
I hope she can learn some in the playgroup, it's lucky the playgroup is in chinese. Sometimes we are afraid Yu Yu is difficult to get use to bi-lingual. My helper and my elder daughter speak english to her while i and my hubby speak chinese to her.
Don't worry too much. She will talk sooner or later.
I think we cannot rush her to do anything n I also not force my son to do so. My son also not like reading books too. From my stand point, I like him to enjoy his childhood. So do u. Be happy n life is tough n let yr daughter have fun first.
You are pretty smart in teaching your kid by learning through playing. I just wanna know what kind of flash card you play with your kid, and where to buy them?
thanks!
I bought DWE n it is good for baby to learn words n with good accents. My friend also bought it after she see my son's progress.
For the flash card,I m using the dot card n bought it from the playgroup I attend. My friend just bought a chinese flash card for her daughter from a shop in TST East New World Ctr. Her daughter is almost 2 yrs old n love it too. I m thinking to buy my son a set too. It costs about $800 wor.
U can browse www.gc.net to get those flash card info.
I've attended their presentation. Actually, this set of materials are veryyyyyy expensive and only used until age 3. So I don't think it's worth to buy it now. Just some personal opinion.
