no la, check the appliance, nowadays most of the small home appliance have to voltage from 110-220. so all you need is to bring them in Canada, and shift the voltage to 110, will do. but for those that they don't have the 110 voltage, then you need the transformer.
not sure what 黑色盒 you meant, you have to check what is written on the "Black Box"
eggplant200 do u refer the 黑色盒 as 火牛?? actually, when you look at those 電器 manuel, you'll see what "watt" they are as some product is designed for internaitonal ma....
for my case, i just newly moved here in July, i moved all 電腦& 音響stuff& leave all kitchen電器. seems ALL kitchen appliance are not auto convert & to buy different level transformer is trouble in fitting/arranging.....some high watt transformer is big....my kitchen here is not big ma...
right now, i brough all kitchen 電器 here of course not HK commond used brand product, but price are ok (we need to buy when they a on sale).....HK used product here is very very expensive.....
good luck

香港同加國電壓不同,如運家庭電器過去,是否 buy transformer( for 220 V to 110V), 是否電飯煲,iron 一定要transformer? 但電腦,電視 就有黑色盒就 不須transformer? ...
meantime, i have diamond water, wondering should i bring to Canada, but it will be more trouble if change the filter.
in Canada, people will drink the tape water, right?
by the way, where are you in Canada, did you buy the winter jacket in HK( like dawn jacket, boots), or in canada?

i moved here in 2002, my rice cooker and the water thermal boiler (national) have all the 110-220V, TV and mini hi-fi (sony), video (china brand), computer all o.k. to bring here without using the transformer.. they don't require any switching. only for the radio-cassett (AIWA) need to shift the voltage from 220 - 110V).
among all my belongs, only the 5.1 home theatre system need the transformer..
chinese people here usually install the filter system at home and not drinking water from tape. lots of filter system here, no ruch, could come and search it yourself.
yi....national hv auto ha...so good...i used panasonic rice cooker & boiler but they a not auto...
hi eggplant200,
i mean..rice cooker...boiler...iron...oven...juice maker...look look yr appliance see if they a 110/220...
i'm in toronto loh..markham area ha...where will u live afterward?
yes, i brought winter jacket fr HK.....hmmm... may be i'm not yet get use to the enviornment...(of course, just few mths).... i still like stuff brought fr HK...but only fancy things, e.g. children stuff.....do u hv children? how old a they?
on my case, 1st 2 mths were very busy.....when i pack my stuff...i hv prepared 2 boxes utility/misc items that i usually used ...so, when i came here...i save my time in shopping favour stuff....that's my practices only & not aply to all ha....but i like this idea loh....don't worry the shipment......as it worth back...
e.g. experience people will only purchase when there's on sale....however, new as me....won't hv much time to do so at 1st period....infact....most stuff i brought fr HK is cheaper then TO, including shipment .....still worth....
good lucky la...

i knew moncton - as we just took the trip there in Aug. a small town, but people is really friendly. not many chinese over there, and not sure if you would get used to it...
yes, it is very small, but well equiped , the big store like
walmart, old navy are there.
the advantage is that the houses , and the things are not expensive, then it is easier for us to start.
disadvantage - is not many chinese, but push us that we must communicate with people in English. where are you in Canada?
also,
why did you go to Moncton? is it famous for tourist ?
i know people love to go there for swimming, fishing during summer.
