Your prompt reply is important to help him build up the sense of security. He will feel safe to learn and explore new things. It'll be good to his emotion.
Otherwise, he will grow up with indifference.
I learnt that from a prenatal talk on child development. The doctor told us to hug, carry and reply to (newborn) baby's cry (needs) as much as we can. It won't spoil our child.
Of course, when they grow older, 1 yr old, then you've to use different method to reply to their crying .

People always say that we should not carry babies when they are crying. Just let them cry. Otherwise, they will be spoiled. What do you think?
This is my first baby and I have no experience. When he cries, I will go to see whether his diaper is wet, whether it's feeding time or whether he is feeling hot. If he is just wanting me to carry him, I will as he will vomit easily after crying.
I read from some books that it's not good to babies by letting them cry helplessly. When they grow up, they will feel helpless and pessimistic. Also, they will cry less in future if parents carry them more and stop them from crying when they are very young.
