I never trust the fund manager. So, I stopped buying fund since 2002. When the stock market drops, the fund managers always try to rationalise that their fund dropping in parallel is normal. If so, why I need buy fund?
I tell you one real story. I bought an Maunlife Fund called "Global Resource Fund" in year 1997. This fund eventually dropped by 75% of the orginal price and then closed (just like bankbrupt) in year 2002 - Manulife finally returned me 25% of my total invested money - meaning that for every HK$100 I invested, they ended up returned me only hk$25 at the end and I lost hk$75.
Many fund managers' performance may not be better than you and me. We'd better manage our own money ourselves. I suspect that some funds are doing something like gambling (e.g.accumulator) - the fund price drops more than you're thinkable.
