Hi everyone! My daughter is 4 (August baby) and she stopped drinking milk from the bottle 2 months ago. (I know it's late, but I don't want to force her)
She used to drink half gallon milk a day and now I have to force her to drink 2 cups. Some days she only drink one small cup.
She was 39 pounds before school starts and now she's down to 34! She is 43 inches tall. I calculated and her BMI is only 12.9!
She is never a big eater and milk has already been where her nutrition comes from.
Should I take her to see a doctor? I wonder what the doctor can do about it though.
Half gallon of milk per day--- very bad habit and took away all the chance for her to absolve any nutrition from any other food, therefore she is a not big food eater, because she's never felt hungry.
Be honest, my daughter Amanda is 5 (august girl as well). She still on Bottle, only before bed time. never had tooth decay, as she cleaned her teeth very often, used water to rise her mouth. dentist loves to see her. and I can't find a reason to take off the only milk intake from her. that is the way she found her security to sleep well. other kids may rely on some other thing but for Amanda, she just need a good bottle to sleep thru the night.
Lose 5 pound is a lot.
You sure need to take her to visit the peds. Do a blood test to make sure about her iron and Hemoglobin level as kid had too much diary product intake everyday, will reduce the iron intake, that may lead to anemia.
She needs to change her diet as well. and peds may suggest for the nutritionist consult.
frequent small meal at this meanwhile.
Introduce all different kind of food to her.
Cheese, yogurt, ice-cream, food with higher calories. snacks is a must if you really concern.
she is only 4, so don't worry about the cholesterol.
feel better

Yeah I know half a gallon milk is way too much. However, now I wish she would drink the milk to keep her weight up.
Getting her to drink 1-2 cups of milk now is like pulling teeth. I have to put the cup next to her mouth and ask her to drink it. Getting her to eat is the same thing, I have to spoon feed her almost every bite.
I think she doesn't eat much lunch at her preschool also.
She eats cupcakes, but only the icing and not the cake. I let her have as much ice-cream as she wants also. She only eats by herself (without me spoon feeding her) when she's really hungry. Even then, she will have 2 oreo cookies and tell me she's full!
She doesn't like Mac and cheese, pizza or any other food..??
what kind of breakfast she eats? cereal? oatmeal? toast/ waffle with syrup? or chinese breakfast?
what about dinner?
Does she like Mac Donald?
as we know.. those are high calories food.. fried fast food (3F).. but if she can have a good Happy meal, that is better than she eats nothing.

Thanks so much Nillie!

For breakfast, it depends. On weekends we have time, so we usually have dim sum or IHOP. However, she eats so little. When we go to IHOP, we don't even have to order for her. She will take a pan cake and that's it!
She loves happy meals.....but for the toy only! She will tell us she's hungry and want Happy Meal. After she gets what she wants (the toy), she will take 2 fries and at most 2 chicken nuggets. It's so frustrating.
I made a deal with her today. I told her if she gains 3 pounds, I will take her to ToysRus and get whatever toy she wants! I hope this will work
and other rule, if she want to touch the toy from Happy meal, 3 nuggets, and 10 fries/3-4 slices of apple, plus the chocolate milk or Apple juice.
for me.. we only go to those with play yard, so Amanda had to eat, and finished, before she can play her toy and go into the play yard.. that's work pretty well (although it is far away from home).

Does she like chocolate milk, stawberry milk? any special favor?
as there are "favor straw" in the market.. they pack it individually, when you sip from the straw, the milk will mix with the favor inside the straw, and it will turn to chocolate milk, strawberry milk and others.. kids here in NYC love it very much.
That may help your daughter becomes willing to drink the milk from a cup
