I want to hire two maids, pls give advice

I have to hire two maids. The maid I am using now recomend me to hire her elder sister(35years old). Do you think to hire her elder sister or hire another one. Which is better.

another one, if 2 sister serve you, then they power is very big, they can do anything behind you. And one can supervise the other one.

Dear Emilymami,

It all depends, but I heard a few cases that even two sisters will argue. In fact, I myself also hire two maids, but they are mother and daughter. The mother will teach the daughter and they will not argue (at least not in front of me) and no complaints (so far)! Of course, there may be the risk of their 'over normal' power - but you must have trust on the helpers otherwise, even one person can 'play' you.

I will prefer to hire somebody else as they can keep an eye on each other. However, you need to well delegate the jobs for each of them.

EmilyMami, Just hire the sisiter in law of my existing maid from Philp. I didn't want to find some one that she knows at the beginning but she told me that when she worked with her ex-employer. They are also 2 and the other maid is always pushing jobs to her. Also their people has a very strong protection. Even they came from same country, if they are not coming from the same region, they will always argue. She promised me that if I hire her sister in law, then it is easiler for her to discuss and share the works.

I had experience of hiring two maids: mother & daughter. It didn't work well as they always agrue with each other. The mother always instructed the daughter to do most of the work.

Also you will have little control of the maids as they will threaten to leave together or do something you don't want.

I suggest you hire another maid with no connection at all. Then they will keep an eye on each other and be more disciplined. You will not be threatened as it's very unlikely that they will join together to do something against you.

my maid introduced her auntie to me as my 2nd helper. so far they get along well.

我會建議請佢親妹妹. 因我就試過請2個無關係的工人, 終於都係您讓我做, 我讓您做, 爭風恰醋, 好煩.

如果佢地係兩姊妹關係會好d, 起碼兩個會互相遷就.

Thank you all for all your suggestions. I will ask my maid first her elder sister's working experince. She just tell me her elder sister worked in singapore for 6 years and in Taiwan 2 year. Before she worked in hongkong for 7 months. She had to go back home because her husband had a girlfriend and what to sell their house. She has a 6 years old son. But I donot know if she can take care of newborn bb or not. Casue I want to hire someone to take care new born bb.

其實1加1工人工作能力實會少過2,又多紛爭,免得過都唔好請兩個,寧可每星期請鐘點工人幫手做家務及大清潔!

如果一定要請兩個,有冇想過請一印一菲,一個專責做家務,一個專責照顧bb? 唔使煩咁多!

Thank you for your reply. My case is: I already have a 15months bb and pregnent again. By the time (next year) my new bb born, the big one will 20 months. I have to hire a new maid to take care the new born bb. So the two maid have to take care of two bb and as well as do the house work too.

I also have friends to suggest me to hire 一印一菲, I also think it is a good idea. At least they will not chat all the time.

I had your similar problem one year before. After we noted so many bad experiences from my brother and good friends, my husband and I had decided to hire one maid only. We preferred to spend more than $5xxx/mth to let our elder one going to a good full day nursery instead of staying at home being looked after by the maid(s) only. The result is good and my daughter learns a lot from the school. She looks happier and healthier than before.

Btw, all of my friends/ brother who had two maids before, are now keeping one maid only. Everythings go smoothly, so don't under-estimate the ability of your maid. Actually, all women in those days were taking care of three to four children at the same time. :lol: My maid has five kids that's why I employ her.

The family lives next to us also has two maids, I can't stand their quarrels frequently. They even quarrel when their employers are at home. :evil:

that's true!
i think after the contracts of my maids end, i shall only let one of them to stay. i'll hire a local one to do the cooking...

i'm glad that so far my maids did not have any quarrel.

the only good point is on Sunday, at least i have one maid to help me out and it's more easy to dine out. note: my maids take alternate Sunday off
