In the old days, when HK girls don't have a lot of skincare knowledge, they like to call toner/lotion as 收縮水. The reason was the older generation toner usually got alcohol inside as ingredient. With alcohol, once you apply on the face, you will feel the tightening effect immediately. This feeling is not deal to 'tightening' of the pores, it's just the reaction to the alcohol and its evaporation.
In western countries, the beauty therapists study a lot and that's why they never call toner as 收縮水 or misunderstand that 收縮水 has pores tightening function.
Recently, people usually call toner/lotion as 爽膚水 which is more correct, as its function is to balance the pH value of the skin. Especially nowadays, most big brands don't add alcohol to the toner, that's why you won't feel the 'pores tightening' result.
as a conclusion:
- use cleanser to clean the skin
- use toner/lotion to balance the pH of the skin (there are different kinds of lotion with other ingredients as well for different skin types).
- use serum (eg. firming, hydrating.....)
- use eyecare products
- use face cream
