Yes, CPU-Z can show you what the brand of motherboard, chipset used, RAM speed and amount, CPU speed, ... etc. Very easy to use. You can just copy CPU-Z program to a floppy or thumbdrive (no need to install program) and run CPU-Z on any PC that you want to check.
Regarding your no speaker problem, not sure what you mean. Perhaps more info pls.
You got the chipset correct, but you still don't know the manufacture name. You need to find out the manufacturer in order to get the updated BIOS by using the AMI serial number. Ver 6271 is too short, you should refer to the web site to check the longer version number (after power on the PC you should be able to see it) and then find out the manufacturer and then find out the BIOS.
