kitkitaunt:
i had at least 3 times plugged duct with fever...
my experience was to use hot pad on hard/sore area of the breast, then use hands to massage that area (very very painful, but i put a towel in my mouth and went through), push all the milk out until the area become soft. the massage direction should be towards the nipple. afterwards use cold pad. it would be best if you could call a lactation consultant to visit you at home and help you with this.
i've seen doctor also and the gave me medicine too, and asked me to pump and throw away milk...but i just kept feeding as usual.
the key is to get your baby to suck as frequent as possible and the plugged duct should be much better in 48 hours.
also just keep feeding! no need to stop! unless you need to take medication that cannot breastfeed!
the doctor asked me to throw away the milk cos he thinks the milk has bacteria, not becos of the medicine he gave me.
my friend had the experience of surgery, and in the end she could not feed after the operation becos she was too exhausted and the wound too painful...
