per my understanding from my godchildren. They don't need to pay anything for the book and teaching material.. But do have a lots of activities fee.
Field trip, skiing trip.. those are the school activities. (like those school panic to NT on a Friday), a Day camp in the Lei Yuen Mum camp... Those are the money you need to spend. Of course, you could deny and don't allow your kid to attend such activities - then they will be all by their own in the school, while all others are out to the field for fun.
that's only applied if you are studying in the public school. If you are sending your kids to private school, then the school fee will be more or less $1000/month + lots of others expenses..
I attended high school in Vancouver 10+ yrs old...I didn't need to spend anything..including books, teaching materials and also field trips...but for some activities like ski trip, I needed to pay.
If you are Canadian citizen or resident and you go to a public school, it will be much much cheaper to study in Canada lah. As for University, it will only cost you around CAD$3,000 a year (excluding books and other teaching materials).
yes la, if you are canadian citizen or PR, you don't need to pay much for the primary school and high school, but just $$ on the school trip or so.
for the University - i don't think CA$3000 is enough la. depends on which subject you are study and whether your kid is living at home or in resident hall...
but if you are sending your kids over as overseas student.. of course, studying in HK is much cheaper la.
Hi, Doggie,
Do you know if there is "discrimination" for Asian student (primary or secondary) study in Canada ?
I mean the local teachers , parents .......
tingting - so far I knew (from my godchildren) there is no discrimination in their area (Markham Ontario) but since they are studying in catholic school, then might be a slightly diff.
I heard from others saying some area (east york, Etobicoke) they do have some racism, not only to the Asia student, but to the black too..
so chinese people here in Toronto, just like HK, try to move to the area where they know the "school spirit" is good...
To avoid the Canadian government to trace back their taxes while working in HK as a Canadian citizen, I have declared my status as non-residence. Do some of you know if my child will need to pay tuition fee even to study in public school ?
per my understanding - you were able to claim non-resident because you don't have any "tie" in Canada (i.e. no property, and no family).
May I ask if your kids were born in Canada? is so, they have the right to study in Canada free of charge (for public school).
However, if you sent your kids back to Canada to study, you start up a "tie" here and therefore, could not claim to be non-residence any more. i.e. you need to pay tax on your income from HK.
these are the pros and cons for you
