I give her cash. She is very happy because she may need extra money to send to her family and also buy them presents. Also during the Christmas holiday, they will need extra cash as well.
Yesterday I asked my "yan yan" if she would celebrate Christmas in Indonesia and she said "No". So I give up my idea to buy her present for X'mas. In fact I would agree with your hubby's point. If you always buy her things she would take it for granted.

Are you take the initiative to buy for your maid or your maid request or wanted you to buy for her?
My maid alwasy mention in the mouth that she loves a pair of sporty shoes in Mirabell, seems call 'Sketcher', and when there is discount there, she even mentioned to me too.....but she is really so bad, I and my husband will ignore her and give her a BIG BIG present - 'fire' after my new maid comes.
Actually it is fine for my husband to buy something for her if she is really good to my bb, but she is not! And my maid not like yours, a 1 to 2 hundred bag or bathing stuffs cannot satify her, she loves 名牌 very much...I love too, why dont' I buy it myself ??
When she first come, I give her some clothes which I haven't wore before or only wear 1 time cos I get fatter after give birth to BB. But she refuse and even don't look at it!
