I always buy the Thai package flying direct to Phuket from hk, and then to bangkok from phuket.
usually 6 days (3 nites in Phuket & 2 nites in Bangkok).

I've just returned from HKT and BKK. Very nice vacation w/ excellent hotel service. My kids did not want to come back.
Actually, you could contact some travel agents to take a tailor made package for you.
