Does anyone know which forms to use to apply for Canadian citizenship for new born baby (born in hk)??

If you do hold a Canadian passport, your baby will be Canadian. I guess you won't need to apply for citizenship.

Then again, I am not exactly sure.

想請問係咪今年四月開始如果我有加拿大護照但呀b唔係加拿大出世(今年四月尾先出世)，咁佢係咪唔可以攞個度嘅護照喇?

The bottom line is how did you get your Canadian citizenship. If you get it by birth in Canada or naturalization, then OK.

If you were born outside Canada and gained Canadian citizenship only because your parents were Canadian citizenship, then your kid born outside Canada won't be qualified for Canadian citizenship.

ah... I thought that because I have a Canadian passport (throughimmigration), my baby will be automatically granted Canadiancitizenship though he/she might be born outside of Canada.
That is the case for British....

But I will be back to Canada to have my baby, so no complications for me.

Do you have any friends or relatives in Canada? Why don't you ask them for some help. They can visit or contact the government agencies and find out more accurate info for you.

You need to go to the consulate of Canada in HK. To get a form for you baby for applying the citizienship card it take around 12 - 18 mth. after get the ciizienship card then you can apply for the Canadian passport. you can apply in here only either parents are a Canadian will do. that's it. so easy. all other you can go to Consulate and ask those ppl who wk there.

Edmonton is a bit too cold. I've been there once sightseeing.

It takes so long now!? Before it's about 6 months, and one can submit forms for citizenship card and passport at the same time.

ah!!! this is what I've been trying to clarify. my son got his citizenship becos I'm a canadian citizen and he was born in HK. So do you mean his child won't be able to become a canadian citizen becos of him?

Yes, in your case, your grandchildren won't have the right to claim the citizenship of Canada if they are born outside of Canada.

I'm not sure about naturalization...I was not born in Canada, but my family migrated to Canada and we stayed there for a few years, so I got the citizenship and passport. So can my son get the Canadian passport if he's born in HK?

yes, if you are a Canadian passport holder, your children will be Canadians.

However, your children's children would not have the right to claim Canadian citizenship if they are born outside of Canada.
