You can test your ability on holding a camera by using TV mode e.g. 1/30 etc to check which shutter speed you can achieve. Then use the TV mode to set the shutter speed to your upper limit (this can allow more light to get into the camera as most as possible), then supplement by a flash. Then it would be the best result according to your ability. Different people and the object will have different result but it would be the best.
You need to consider the motion of the object and your ability on holding the camera, therefore, TV mode is the best choice and fastest choice. However, you need to familiar with your ability and the speed of the object motion.
M-mode is also a good choice but it may need more time to adjust the setting.
P.S: camera stand cannot solve the problem raised by the movement of the object.
