I have hired a brand new domestic help from Phillipines. She started work with us since 5 March, 2005. I am so happy that she is really capable and willing to learn plus work hard. Hence, I have some suggestion for all mummies here who are also looking for Domestic Helper.
Working experience in Singapore and Taiwan.
Able to speak good English and Mandarin.
Able to cook a lot of Chinese food.
Can take great care for kid as well.
Cleaning standard - High
Age - 37
I would like to share that how I got this maid through my agent. I don't trust anyone at agent either in Hong Kong or Philippines. Hence, I've her phone number and I contact her directly through a "Sudden ad-hoc" long distance call. By doing so, you will know how her response like, her phone manner, etc. Moreover, I reckon every domestic helper telling us that she can cook and speak well on the application form. Dear ALL mummies, please don't trust them. You MUST ask and talk to them directly and see how they answer your questions. I normally asked some common sense questions and asked her how did she take care for kid. For myself, I also asked her to describe to me "How to cook a chinese dish over the phone?" Don't just trust them by answering you "YES". If she can tells you how to cook a dish, the chance of capable to cook is a lot higher. Right?? If she claim that she has been working for other family, do ask them how did she take care for them and what time did she wake up in the morning. If she wakes up late, I can tell that this person should have higher chance tends to lazy. Agreed??
Hope this information can help other mummies in BK.
Dear Kaunty,
Thanks your good tips.
You hire your maid directly or through the agents, how you get her telephone no.?
Can you give me some more infromation?
I was holding her application and ask questions according to her filled in information. Of course, I saw all her information on the form, e.g. her name, her working experience, etc. A lot more you can ask. I think it is hard to tell lies unless they really want to make a trap for us. Normally, we have to trust them somehow. Right??
