Ain't sure what CPU you will pick ...
I've just have my new PC couple of weeks ago and decided to move on Win7. 1st, it's 64bit. 2nd, Win7 is stable enough and unlike Vista, with hundreds (if not thousand) software support. So, why still stuck with XP and not move on to 7?
If you need to support legacy software (my case: old PC games), install both OS with dual-boot options - XP and 7 coexist.
Yet, my XP merely have legacy games install. Nothing else, not even Office. Rest of the s/w like Office, Photoshop, Corel, etc, has been plotted to 7.
Oh, mind you that drivers ain't issues with 7. For instance, I'm using a HP deskjet 1120C which only comes with parallel port (i.e. no USB). Still, it function perfectly under 7!
