As far as I know, the English schools in Macau are better than the average English schools in HK. If the schools are called "English" schools in Macau, they'll be "completely" English (i.e. not just the books are English but also all the conversations will be in English in classes). I think the ranking of Sacred Heart in Macau is relatively higher than that in HK (cos there're many other better schools than that in HK).
I think there're no official classifications of band 1, 2, 3 in Macau. However, ppl can tell the brand-named schools from top of their heads, cos there're less than a dozen. e.g. Pui Ching (good for math; they teach math one grade higher; e.g. form 1'ers will learn form 2's math; so most students there usually hv math tutors after schools; lots of pressure!), Sacred Heart and Santa Rosa (both English and Chinese sections are good; even their Chinese sections' English are better than average Chinese schools, I think ...), Yuet Wah (Chinese and English sections for boys), "Chee Yau" (forgot the English name; English schools for boys), Perpetual Help (English co-ed schools).
All these are private schools and offer from kindergarden to high schools (form 5 or 6). Most ppl go to private schools, cos public schools emphasis on Portuguese altholugh they teach Chinese and English as well.
Other good elementary schools are: "Sing Ga" (Saint Family - forgot the exact English name) and Sao Paulo. The students there will usually go to the other famous high schools mentioned above.
Hope that it helps ... Sorry I can't type Chinese from my pc.
As I said, most of those schools mentioned offer kindergardens as well, except that there's no kindergardens at Sacred Heart English Section. So, most ppl study at Sacred Heart Chinese section first for kindergarden first, and then they transfer to the English section. They used to require to line up "physically" for the interview for kindergarden. Not sure abt it now ...
It might be similar for Yuet Wah (very long time back it's same school as Sacred Heart but they split for boys and girls).
All the schools I mentioned before are "private" schools, so the tuitions will be the same no matter what yr nationality is. All the public schools are mainly Chinese/Portuguese schools although they also teach English as a subject. So, most Macaneses go to private schools. Also, it was not easy to get into public schools as there were not so many of them and the kids of the government staffs would have priority to get in. now, it might be easier cos i heard there're more public schools.
I also graduated from Sacred Heart. I don't know how much exactly for the tuiton now cos I've left Macau for years. But I know it's not cheap compared to others although i was not the one who paid for it.
Is "Saint Kung Wui" a new school? if not, do u mean "Choi Kou"? Choi Kou's been around for long time. however, it's not very good in the early 90s. i don't know if the quality changes now. also, the tuition was very expensive, cos they took any kicked-out students from the nice schools.
Good luck for school hunting!
btw, i might be back to Macau soon w/ my boy (23m). are there anythings special i should pay attention to? (i'll be staying w/ my own family.)
btw, "Saint Kung Wui - Choi Kung" is a Chinese school if u meant that one.
also, i'm not sure if their kindergarten might be better than their high school. i hv an aunt used to be in-charge in their kindergarten but i know nothing abt it.
of course it'll say my "mother-school" is good la! he ... he ... (just kidding!)
frankly i haven't studied kindergarten at Sacred Heart; even i did, things hv been changing (esp. with different principals' styles).
but as far as i know, their kindergarten also emphasizes in active learning and English (one single kindergarten for both SHCC Chinese and English Sections).
btw, does Choi Kou still not hv a playground for kids? i don't quite remember it.
