你係以咩身份拎綠卡?
if it's marriage status, then u need to stay in US for 3 yrs then u can apply for natualiziton for citizen, after u pass the test, u can apply for US passport.
if in others status, u need to stay in US for 5 yrs, take the test, pass it, be a citizen then get a passport.
as i know, green card holder cannot get a US passport. need to be a citizen 1st.
that is correct. The day you passed your Naturalization exam, they took your green card away. And will give you a letter, states that you will go for your naturalization at such and such date.
Then you will have the naturalization paper. And you can apply your passport after that!
I came to US with my BNO with K3 visa. so, I use my BNO as my travel document.
When I was a greencard holder.
I leave US with my greencard, enter HK with my HKID, leave HK with my HKID + BNO +greencard, enter US with my greencard.
Is that clear enough??
Now, I am a citizen, with US passport (although I am too lazy to get one yet, I haven't travelled for 5 years overseas la).
I will use my US passport to leave US, I suppose to use my passport to enter HK (but I still can use my HKID to get into HK, although, it is unlawful). Then I will leave HK with my HKID and my US passport, enter US with my US passport.
You don't need to show your HKSAR.. doesn't really useful in this situation.
However, you may use your HKSAR in some of the situation.. like travel to somewhere that HKSAR passport with free visa fee.. then you may choose not to show your US passport.
HK (before 1997) allows 2 nationalities, but I am not so sure what about after 1997 as I left HK since then.. you may have to ask other moms who was in HK that period.
When will you go for your naturalization?
remember that they have guideline for you, how many months you must live inside US to be eligible to apply for the exam.

Nillie_Mami, I'm always confused if I use my HKID to enter/leave HK, and use US passport to enter US, will the US custom question me why there is no record or no stamps on the US passport to show where I've been?
Do you mean if you show both your HKID & US passport to the HK custom when leaving, they will scan HKID as well as put a stamp on the passport? Or do I have to initally ask them to put a stamp on it?
TSX,
Yes. You must hold your US passport when you get thru the custom (on your way back).
HK ID card is just a proof of your residency in HK, it is not a travel document. You can not use it to go to any other country, not even China.
You use HKID, that is just to give your the short cut in the custom, so you can save your time on waiting.
When you get into HK, you can choose to use US passport, no one will say that you are wrong, and you suppose to do it that way. Then you are going to wait on that long line.
That is your choice.
My hubby would rather use HKID to get into hk.
Custom in hk will stamp it on your passport when you leave HK.
For those several years we travelled back and forward to hk, we did not have any problem regarding the stamps.
Amanda is different, she doesn't have the residency in hk, so she uses her US passport to travel, but she stays with us at the HK residency line, custom did not say anything from the first time to the recent visit.
