Urgent: Feeding on Demand?

I have another question and hope some mothers can share their experience.

My son (12 days old) demands feeding very frequently during day time. But at night, he can sleep for 5 hours (e.g. he took some milk at 10:30 p.m. and did not wake up until 4:45 a.m. he then went back to sleep and wake up at 9:00 a.m.).

Is it o.k. not to feed BB not so frequently at night?

佢咁耐唔食, 你都谷到痛啦。

不過我阿b 1個半到都開始寧願

I would NEVER wake a sleeping baby.

Your goal is to teach your baby to know the difference between day and night. If you wake him up, he will probably start thinking that there is no difference between the two and will end up waking up often. Babies do not know that night time is for sleeping. If he sleeps, let him sleep. Let his tummy get used to not wanting a night feed, then gradually, your baby will sleep through the night.

Your baby will let you know when he is hungry - that's what they do best... eat and sleep!

[size=medium]I routine fed my son from the first day to the 20th month.
3 hours and 20 minutes are between two meals. Extremely convenient, and I can do what else I plan to do, e.g. shopping.
His weight is continuously between M and L sizes.

我都咪試過, 因為咁耐以來都一直有餵, 佢一餓就CALL我, 最耐試過一次連續六個鐘唔駛餵咋. :-(

bb still falls asleep while eating. When I put him back in bed, he starts to cry. Don't know when he really needs to be fed.

如果佢食飽左應該唔會喊, 如果佢食左好耐之後仲喊, 會唔會當左你係奶咀, 要一路食一路

The number of feeding times reduced to 10 today. Things are better, at least I can get some rest. Sometimes, BB can sleep for almost 4 hours without waking up. I gave him some forumla (just 2 .5 oz in 1 day and in 3 servings) to make sure he is full and it seems that he can sleep longer.

I agree with Juju'sMum.

For new born to 3 months actually feeding time between 2 meals not over 6 hrs is ok. --- especially in night time.

If over 6 hrs may be you better to check in case baby too hungry cannot wake up and ask for food-- especially in day time.

Yes, if baby cries when you put him down in bed, then it means he is still hungry. Letty did that to begin with and I had no idea why, until I figured out that she was still hungry.

Just massage your breast when you feed to wake him up, or tickle his feet, that'll also wake him up enough to feed. When he is full, you will be able to pu thim to bed without him waking up.
