Suetyen, I know Toronto do have the Chinese school (run by both private /school board) from grade 1 - 12..
people could take this subject as one of their credit to apply for University
For sure there is chinese to study in school as well as private institutes...but do you think your kids will interest about it??
I have so many Canadian born chinese who even speak fluent cantonese at home, but cannot read and write.
If your child is 10years old, then I am sure he/she has foundation in chinese, then no need to force him/her to learn more...as if he/she mix with chinese, then he/she will read chinese magazine/newspaper for gossipping...but do you think it may affect their english level??
I understand all moms want their child be perfect, but will that happen all the time??
just to share the experience I had with my friend's kid.
one of them come at the age of 10, around grade 4/5 here in Toronto. He went to the chinese primary school, so he then have difficulties in picking up English here... and turn out he stick on to most of the HK/Mainland China immigrant.
another one come at age 11, but attend St. Joesph back in HK. As he get used to the English media during the class, he had no difficulties in school, but find a hard time in doing the group assignment, searching for materials to do the project, as they seldom have such back in HK.
For me, I will just say, if you want to send the kids over to study, you may concern more on their acadamic side rather than chinese.. as they would pick up such during the daily conversation with you, from TV or so...
this is just the kind of thought I have. Hope everything is fine with your husband's work
