my girl is underweight....worry!!!

My girl visited a doctor yesterday for she had a cold. The dr. said she is seriously underweight, she is only 15.5 lbs. She's nearly 9 months old. Worry.... :-(

Which percentile line is she in? How much milk does she drink daily? Don't worry, there should be method to "pump" up the baby!!! Add oil!!1

She is in the lowest 3% percentile line. She drinks only 5 ozs x 3 + 2 x congee per day. I don't understand why she is so thin because she eat 2 large bowl of congee and she likes eating. Perhaps she drinks too little milk every day.

which milk powder? Maybe you could:
(1) try Wyeth or A+, both are so-called "fat-baby" milk powder
(2) you need to let the baby sleep for at least 14 hours a day at this age. Sleep helps baby to build muscle

For my baby, she drinks 6oz x 3 plus 2 congee. Not much diff from yours, but my baby loves sleeping.

Hi nn,

The biggest problem for my girl is she can't sleep well. She only sleeps about 10hours a day and she gets disdurbs easily. We can't even talk when she is sleeping. Perhaps I try to force her to sleep.

She is feeding with Gain formula. She take Wyeth No1 before she it made her always full of passage in her throat so we changed to Gain ( 恩美力)since she was 6 months old.

Anyway, really thanks for your advise I will try to force her to sleep everyday. Hope my maid co-operate with me. (it's the hardest)

Don't worry. First of all, you have to observe if your baby is active. If she is active and seems happy, she is fine.

What is her birth weight? My baby didn't gain much weight when she started eating solid because it takes her time to adjust the digest system. So, her weight gain line dropped a lot. After 2 months of trying, she is gaining more weight now.

And don't forget she is having a cold; some babies will lose weight when they are sick and lose the appetite.

I could really understand how you feel and worry. My baby is underweight too. He only gains 1 pounds+ during the past 3 months. He is 9 months old and only 17pounds+. He already takes special formula (fat boy) milk. The problem is he don't like to eat much and he is not interested in drinking milk.

I am trying to boil plain rice congee and use the water to mix the milk for him to try. may be you could also try this.

Dont worry!!!
I learnt from a bk mum that rice cereal (mix with formula) is better than congee.
Also bb yogurt is very good.
You can consider to change one congee to cereal and give your bb yogurt everyday.
Cheese is good to gain weight too.

Excuse me to ask a question here though i'm a Oct mom. When did you start to give baby yogurt and cheese to your baby? I was told not to give it until 1 year old but some moms already given to their baby at 6-7 months old. Is Laughing Cow a good choice of cheese? My girl just turned 7 months old and she doesn't like milk very much though i've switched to another formula for her, she could only drink it while sleeping. Her total intake of milk is about 20oz milk + 1 congee and 1 cereal everyday. I want to introduce more different type of food so it can work better and stimulate her appetite. Thanks.

i want to know where can i buy the baby yogurt.
my baby is only 4 lbs when he was born and now he is 19lbs (9m16d),he is still a small size baby but he like to eat very much.I think you try to give your baby to drink some more milk or even add one more time for baby.
