I totally agree with @circleda about 九龍先係一錯無回頭, and @luiwhy about using google map to do preparation!
My wife and I just relocated back to Hong Kong after many years in USA... driving in Hong Kong is a completely different ADVENTURE. The road sign is impossible to follow...
You are absolutely spot on for this! Google map does not know whether a left-turn or right-turn is allowed. I use it to map a route, and then VIEW the street-view also just to make sure.
Just like today, it mapped a route for me, but if I use street-view, I can see that I cannot make a right-turn, while the map route told me to do so...

Google map often makes mistakes , I would only trust it 60%.. Sometimes it shows the road which in fact I know it doesn't allow making turns.
The only reliable means is relying on your previous failure experience, cheers!

i have been using GPS for half year...
u cannot rely on gps 100 % as there are many high rises and fly over bridges that will block the gps coverage.
I must say that it is true the road signs in HK are so bad. Often you can only see it while you are already there. Give you no time to change a lane or whatsoever. That's why, my hubby (from overseas) is so reluctant to drive in HK. I often ended up to be the driver and he read the map. Hahaha.
