Umm... Canada is well known as an open and accepting nation. While granted not everyone will understand or be interested in Chinese culture, there shouldn't any major problems.
Plus in some area, Chinese people are the majority.
Minorities have contributed a great deal to Canadian society, they aren't slaves.
Is your friend living in Canada? Why he/she makes such comment?
Canada is always described as multicultural nation. We really accept and promote the existence of multiple cultures and ethics group here. Doesn’t matter you are Chinese, European or Africa descent, we are the same!
As a personal opinion, your friend needs to correct his/her mind, cus he/she is giving me an impression that he/she is racism against the Black.
Yes, I agree, he/she is racism against the Black and look down on him/herself as Chinese.

agreed i lived in Toronto almost 8 yrs now. nothing about racism. if u r lived in the chinese nomiated sub-division. then u don't even feel like u r in overseas (like me). everything is just like in HK except you pay in CA$
Comparing with other countries, local canadian in general are more open-minded as they get used to multiculturalism and respect other peoples' traditions.
In fact, Chinese have made significant economic contributions and investments in Canada. Some Chinese even participate in politics. These undoubtedly evaluate Chinese social status.
Racism may exist in some local people's mind, but not obviously perceivable by me in Canada.
