Thanks!

With a gross income $100,000 pa, you are likely to get no more than $75,000 pa after tax (simple calculation, not taking any family tax benefit), ie about $6250 per month. Rent $2000...food $1500...bills/insurance $500... travelling/cars $300...plus others such as eating out, trips etc. Child care is VERY expensive and mortgage rates are well over 7% & increasing. Life in Australia may come with quality but definitely does not come cheap!

Thanks for your information.

Does the family tax benefit make not much difference for the tax?

I am now a full time mother and I will take care of the baby myself. Insurance is another problem. My husband will work in public sector in australia... shall we be cover by the national health? some people suggest it's better to buy insurance for private doctor...

I asked my relative who worked as accountant in AUS before. He said I won't have any savings if I live in city. He said it's the life for most Australian. They don't have spare money for travelling, and they usually 先洗未來錢, use credit cards and loan... is it the fact??

There are 2 type of family tax benefit, FTB A and FTB B, check the following web-site for eligibility.

http://www.familyassist.gov.au/

The money you received from Family Assistance Office is tax free but there is income test, means your family income has to below the threshold.

Everyone (PR or citizens) are covered by medicare. Free to go to public hospital or see doctor if they are bulk billed. However, if you want to go to private hospital (eg for deliver baby) than you better have private health insurance cover. Moreover, if your family earn more than certain amount and without private insurance cover, you will need to pay 1.5% medicare levy surcharge on your taxable income. check the following link:

http://www.privatehealth.gov.au/healthinsurance/incentivessurcharges/mls.htm

Your relative is right but I think only for local australian (or the young guns) who live on loan and credit card. Chinese love save money!!

Here is the tax rate table for this year for your reference.

http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content.asp?doc=/content/12333.htm

tax is A$25,450 for people earn A$100,000.

My husband will most likely hold the Temporary Business (Long Stay) (subclass 457) visa to work in AUS.... for taxation, shall we consider to be "non resident".... can we apply for the family tax benefit?

Do you think we can manage our living with the housewhole income AUS$10000 a year?

Many thanks!!

From the tax perspective, you are also consider as resident even though you are holding 457 visa.

If you are holding 457 working visa, you are not entitle anything except paying tax

you should be able to live pretty good with income A$100,000 pa assumed that you will be a full time mum so no childcare expenses will be incurred.

Thanks a lot Mrs. Kangaroo...

My husband is still searching the job and because he must work under the public sector and in rural areas before he gets the Australian dentist licsense... now, Darwin has more active feedback.... will have tel interview from the Western Australia and may have job opening in Tasmania next year.... I dunno if it's better for me to apply for skilled migration first, rather than waiting for my husband getting a job offer.... I was a social worker and maybe enough marks for skilled migration. we are now 31 yr old... marks will be deducted if we are older...

any advice?

It now requires the IELTS score to be 7.0 for all areas... I am worrying if I can do it. I got B in HKCEE and D in HKALE.... and master graduate...

I would choose Tasmania where is beautiful, but very cold in winter. I never been Darwin but it will be my last place to be!!

Nowadays, skilled migration is very hard. My friend applied it onshore 2 years ago and still waiting.

see if you have enough points:

I want to know if I become the PR, and then come back HK and work, should I pay tax in Australia?

It seems many people after getting the PR, keep working in HK. How does it work?

There are agreement between HK and Australia. If you paying tax in HK, you don't need to pay tax in Australia.

Yes, take the IELTS first, the results would be valid for 2 years.

Darwin would be very hot, hotter than HK.

Imagine Brisbane's weather is similar to HK, the going north would be hotter, tropical bushes. Going south would be colder.

With your English result in HKCEE and HKALE, you should be able to get score 7 without problem.

There should have some IELTS study/exam material that you can borrow from library. Just keep doing, doing & doing. You should be fine. That is what I did before the exam. I think British Council has preparation course for IELTS.

Thanks for your encouragement!! I am now studying hard for it. But it's difficult coz my baby always wants me staying with him...

I have one question. If I cannot get all 7.0 in IELTS before the application for skilled migration, my score will be around 115... can I submit the IELTS score after the application if I get higher marks later... I am so in hurry because I am a full time mother since Jan 2010. Before that, I worked many years for a job related to the skills. If I apply after Dec, then the work experience cannot be counted for points... :(

well, I am not sure to re-submit the IELTS score.

If you don't mind living in Darwin, I think your hubby will get a job offer very soon.

Lots of doctor / dentist treat Darwin is a step stone to come to Australia because not many people wants to live there. And if you have such profession in Australia, you don't want to live there. Hence, very high shortage and high turnover.

WA is better than Darwin (personal opinion).

Hi Macusmama,

1) yes, you can apply HECS-HELP.

http://www.goingtouni.gov.au/Main/Quickfind/PayingForYourStudiesHELPLoans/HECSHELP.htm

2) apply AUSTUDY if you are going to university,
Apply Newstart if you are unemployed and are looking for job.

For Austudy, you need to live in Australia for 2 years before lodge the application, not sure if you are eligible.
http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/payments/austudy_residence.htm

For Newstart Allowance:
http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/payments/newstart_eligible.htm

3) yes, 9.5years old ok but there has income test.
you can apply FTB A and/or FTB B depending on your circumstance.
http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/payments/ftb_a_eligible.htm

hope it helps.
