A few years ago when I was looking for a maid, an agent also recommended me a maid who has been working in HK for 10 years with one employer, the agent said the maid is so good and her employer likes her very much, she has a perfect recommendation letter from her employer and she still gets on very well with the employer's children and I can see this at the interview because she brougt the employer's son (7 years) to the agent office for an interview. But then I choose to speak to her emplyer instead of just reading at the reference letter. When I rang up the employer, his feedback just as the same as reference letter saying she is so good at everything and loyal and they decided not to employer her again because family reason, then I ask if she have any record of borrowing money fromthe bank, the employer was hesitate a while and then say not sure, when I said to him that I really don't want to get the problem of maid borrowing money, then the employer says I have to decided myself and when I asked further the employer fiannally admitted that the maid borrowed money from the bank and that is why they terminated her.
This experience tells us sometimes the employer want to get rid of the maid fast so they don't have to carry on with the problem of maid owing money, they will give good reference letter. So if the maid is recommended by agent, becareful.
