do you have any particular places that you must go apart from glasgow and edinburgh? and how far north you'd like to go? do you intend to visit inverness and aberdeen or just southern scotland?
I want to start at Edingburgh, visit the Highlands: Loch Ness Inverness, Fort William and Glasglow, etc, then return to Edingburgh.
Since I have no concept of the distance between the places, how much time to spend on different spot, and what other places of interest on the way, so I would like to have some itinery for reference. I've learned that some BK moms have been there.
if you're starting from edinburgh, travel time to inverness would be (my guess) about ?6 hours (via Perth and Aviemore route) the only place i can think of about stopping by is Aviemore. THere used to be a mini entertainment centre (small arcade with mini go-cart ride etc). I can't quite remember any interesting places in Perth, apart from passing by all those clover leaves roundabouts. So i guess you'll need to stay overnight at Inverness after visiting the monster. The other route you can take is via Aberdeen (3rd largest city in Scotland, just by the north sea with a long beach esplanade.) roads from edinburgh and to Inverness are bigger (meaning you can drive faster). Edinburgh to Aberdeen is about 2-3 hours. Aberdeen to inverness is also about 3 hours.
I'm not sure how long it takes from Inverness to FortWilliam, but by judging the highland roads, it could well be another ?3 hours. This is just a mere guess as I've never been there (or have i?) I thought there's a famous steam train running from Fort William to ???? where the scenery is stunning.
oh, i've been Glencoe (just off Fort William) during winter where you can ski (but not sure what to see in summer)
Interesting places to see? well, all i remember was the Edinburgh castle and princess street (shopping) and university. Glasgow? all i remember was the citylife, just like london.
My advice would be, try to spend more time in Highland areas, than the cities Edinburgh/Glasgow, coz Highlands have really stunning scenery!
Oh it would be great if you can catch to see Highland Games during summer. ?http://www.travel.mysterious-scotland.com/castletours/highlandgames.html
Not very helpful isn't it? Sorry!
Where are you planning to go?
I am now in Manchester, visiting my cousin, and my kids are attending summer school here.
My husband will come early Aug, then we have about 10 days to drive to Lake District and Scotland.
Since my cousin has never been to Scotland too, I have to ask the mommies here.
