Just to share a joke. I went to my kitchen to have a cup of tea and found that my helper is looking a soup with "yam (taro)".

I said "OMG. How can you use yam for the soup". She said it was written in the cook book. I checked the cook book and found that it was written as "Yam Bean" not yam. It referred to "Sha Gok" in chinese. I told her that yam is not for stew with meat or for dessert and never for soup.

I reminded her that whenever there were any ingredients she was not sure she could ask me to write them in Chinese for her to buy in market.

Last time, she made a soup with tomato and dried mushroom. I'd never tried that before and she also claimed that she followed that cook book. I checked the cook and it was really written as what she claimed.

My helper is so far so good but sometimes makes some very strange dishes for us. I am still thinking how I can make use of the taro soup. Maybe I can stew the taro with pork. Any good idea?

Once, my fd's maid cooked water melon soup for her. The maid said, 'it does not make sense to cook winter melon in summer!'

我工人試過煲罐頭雜菜湯+瑤柱、冬菇同蛋花

仲有好似老火湯嘅有南北杏、紅蘿蔔、肉,但係最正係放魚肉燒賣,煲到變咗白色

She is very innovative! If I were you, I'll ask her to drink up all the soup.

It's very common that domestic helpers misunderstand the recipes and cook with incorrect ingredients, especially when they have to prepare Chinese soup with dried herbs, plants or vegetables.

That's why to be safe, I demonstrate the dishes before I ask my domestic helper to cook them. For the soup, if I don't have a chance to do so, I prepare the dried ingredients for them, and show them photos (using search engines) of the other ingredients before she goes to the market.

唸起都無胃口!

所以我唔會俾工人買餸,我自己買,唔識寫都畫公仔俾佢知煮d乜。

我朋友boil花膠翅湯, 全部料自己買, 都驚隻新印搞衰, 咁名貴緊係自己浸發落料啦.
dinner時, 吖, 印印居然識畢D湯料出黎serve咁醒...OK...食完...仲未見D湯出塲?
----> 當我個friend攞隻碗去kitchen, 一望個pot嘜都無 !!!

印印: "MUM, 哥D咪畢左出去Lor, 哥D水吾要, 倒左啦"
