I have a 23 months son and we may move to Albany, Western Australia with my husband with the 457 visa. My husband gets a job offer from the government and will work and take the license exam in Australia in one or two years. After obtaining the license, we will be able to apply for the PR....

I have several questions and seek for your advice:
1) How much will be the medical insurance for a family?

2) They only provide airfares to my husband and limited rellocation allowance (about several husband australian dollars). What will be the cost for us to rellocate?

3) Anything you suggest we can ask for allowance or sponsorship for our move from the government department?

4) any experience on the length of time to apply and get the PR from 457 visa?

5) anyone who has been to or know anyone who has been to Albany?

Many many thanks!

Medical insurance for 457 visa for family around $1,400 per quarter with BUPA (HBA).

After working for 2 years (the last 12 months must be staying with the same employer) you may apply for PR provided your employer willing to sponsor your application, it usually take around 9 months to 1 year time.

For relocation allowance, just for your information as I am working for a private company not for the government, we offer around A$6,000 - $8,000 to our overseas employee relocating to Australia and also the 1st month accommodation.

My friend used iman before she got PR. for a medical practitioner, the time from application to approval of PR was 4-5months, not sure about present situation.

I used HK$40000 for shipment, AUD20000 to buy a car (car is a must), AUD10000 to buy food, rent house, buy furnitures and 雜物,daily spending for the first two months.

$1400 in AUD or HKD? if in AUD, very expensive!!

It seems that private company is very generous for the relocation allowance....

Anyone knows what I can bargain if work in public sector in WA?

Did your friend get the license before going to Australia? It's because my husband has to get the license before applying for PR... so should his working experience be counting after getting the license?

Yeah, maybe there would be some difference. My friend finished all her training in HK, and came as an exeperienced specialist. And she actually worked here as a TR for 1 year (to experience the life here before she decided to migrate).

I just guess if you have enough points, it would be relatively fast for a medical professional to apply PR. I might be wrong.

BTW, hope you won't mind me talk too much. Better check out the place you are going to live. I don't really know about Albany, so I am just speaking in general.

My husband once daydreamt about working in rural area, and searched the website for jobs. We found quite a number of vacancies in places like Mackay, Townsville, Rockhampton etc. Recently we have quite a few natural disasters in Queensland. And I found that those towns are quite often hit by the storms and floods. Those places being unpopular are not without reasons.

Thanks lillymarie,

My husband had eight years working experience in HK in the health professional. Because the Australian government does not recognize the qualification from HK since 2001 and my husband needs to take the license exam then. Because of that, the department of health can only employ him in remote area. Before they gave an offer to go to Newman, but we rejected and he gave this place and I searched from the website this is the third biggest city in WA with around 35000 population and have all basic infrastructures. That's why we think about it. In fact, after getting the license we can move to wherever we like because my husband can work in both private and public sectors too and we were told that the sponsorship for PR application is easy.... so we plan to stay one or two years in Albany and then we may move back to big city.

Thanks for your concern for the environment of the place we may go. Yes, my husband does worry a lot about the potential natural hazards, especially after the outbreak of earthquake in New Zealand. I asked a geography teacher and she sent me a two very useful website locating places with frequent tectonic hazards and find very few in Australia! However, no one expected the heavy rains and flooding in Queensland as Australia has been dry for many years... so the basic infrastructures and medical service are very important....

In fact, I stayed in a B & B is Ross, Tasmania. The old couple moved from Sydney to Tasmania because their daughter moved to Launceston, Tasmania with their children. They thought children grew up happier in Tasmania than in Sydney.... too much competition and distraction and cannot enjoy life in busy city.

It's AUD$1,400 covering the whole family in our case is for 4 persons. For 457 work visa holder, we probably are paying higher because there is certain requirement of medical coverage that we have to meet.

try this website of Australian immigration department
http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/

and this page will also give you more information:
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/whats-new.htm

there is a lot of information, including the general waiting time for a visa in the website, just spend sometime to read through it, then you will get an idea.
