The main difference is $$$. My friend's husband is a teacher and I was told that private schools paid very little to their teachers while public school teachers are generally very well paid with great benefits...and teachers make BIG difference in schools. You can tell which type of schools will attract and retain great teachers. I wouldn't pay $$$ just for private schools' nicer campus. Unless you want to go to a Christian school than you have no choice but private schools, otherwise public school is just as good, if not better than private schools in Canada, in my opinion.
