The one big difference is that in Canada you can't choose how you deliver your baby (if you have OHIP coverage). Under normal circumstances, your baby has to be delivered vaginally. Unless it is recommended by doctor for medical reason, you wouldn't be able to do C-section at all. As I know a lot of moms in HK can choose to do C-section for convenience and less pain. Here in Canada with a free health care system, you don't have a choice as C-section costs more to the government. Also in Canada you can't choose to stay in hospital as you wish. You will normally be discharged the next day if everything is normal after the delivery. So if you like more pampering services, HK is better but it costs you $$. In Canada, you don't pay anything except for semi-private or private room. OHIP covers ward room expenses and you don't pay a dime after delivery.

Thanks for sharing. Both of my children were C-section because they did not turn their heads around. They were born upside. So i am not sure if this time my baby is at the right position, whether I would have to give birth naturally. Since I did C-section before, i really do not want to try to give birth naturally (I will be so scared) I do not want to try another method and challenge myself again coz C-section is already a nightmare for me.

That's an important point....if i need to give birth naturally, i would not go back to canada to give birth even if my son cannot be canadian citizens....i need to call my family doctor tomorrow to confirm.

Thanks for telling me this.

In the past, we cannot choose how to delivery the baby in Toronto. But since 2004 or 2006 (can't remember which year.)
The rules has changed. My OB actually allow me to choose to do C-section. Also even before 2004 or 2006, you are allow to choose to do C-section, if your previous baby was delivered that way. So I think you don't have to worry, you can choose to do C-section here.

As for finding an OB at 34 weeks, I think it may be a bit hard to get a particular OB that you prefer. But your Family doctor should be able to get you an OB or doctor that can take care of your delivery since you are a citizen here.

However, I think what you have to consider is whether there is a real need to come back to delivery. It is because if you plan to come back to stay in Canada later, then you surely can apply the citizenship for your #3 when you come back. If you have no plan to coming back later, then whether your#3 got the citizenship or not is not really a matter.
