This is the first time my maid comes to HK but she is very smart and does everything already. One thing she loves to do most is to unpack my boxes and arrange my stuffs daily. I can't find most of my things and need to ask her for help.
Today is the first month of her employment and I have found something suspicious.
This morning, my husband can't find his jeans ( he has only 1 blue jean ) and we looked and looked. We asked our maid to look for it but she can't find it. When we came back home, the first thing I asked her is whether she can find his jeans. She said no. So we continue to search. When my husband asked her again, suddenly she took out 3 pair of jeans (2 pairs are mine) and said that she found it in the back of the wardrobe (which is impossible coz I have put a small drawer inside my wardrobe and there is no space for 3 pair of jeans to hide) and she took them out from the washing machine. Her excuse is since they are dirty, she wash them immediately.
The next suspicious thing: today we pay her the salary in cash. She has borrowed a lot of money from the agent ($9800 HKD) and the agent asked her to repay $2000 each month for 5 months. So we showed her a check we wrote to agent ($2000) and gave her the rest of her salary. She said that her father is very sick and she wanna get all the salary by not repaying the agent for the first month. We told her that she can discuss that with the agent on Monday and if the agent agrees, we can give her $2000 cash instead of the check.
What makes me suspicious is that every Sun, she dresses up nicely and go out till 8:30 - 9pm. If she is in need of money, she should have asked me to let her work during Sunday and have extra pay or stay home to save money in transportation. Also, I have asked her to sign a form of address change to the immigration dept and she asked me if she could copy down my address. I immediately refused.
What do you think? Do you think she is suspicious? What can I do?

Now, what can I do? I am not going to lend her money and I will lock my bedroom door when I was out. I also ask her not to open my closets and arrange my stuffs. I will also count my kitchen utensils with her every week from now on. (coz I lost a few forks and spoons from my nice utensil set already) I have lots of stuffs at home and after her rearrangement, I can't remember how many things I have.
Don't trust her again! She is liar ! My ex-maid also behaved like this . She will change your drawers' stuff every month or even weekly Coz she will know what things u need most and then she might ask u to give her the unwanted goods or stolen ! For the money issue , she will keep asking u until you borrow her quite a large amount of $$. Her excuse for instance parent dead , children illness ... Etc
They are very tricky! Like a fox !!
My advice is do not trust her. If you lock your bedroom when you are not at home, it is inconvenient for cleaning. Furthermore, there are many things she can pack, then sell or send them back home, eg. food (dried scallop, dried mushroom, bird nest, jin seng, etc) For my experience, rice, laundry soap, food, vitamine etc. just like I importer to import food, goods from the supermarket, Amway, etc and she exported (sell or send the goods and food back home). I found those circumstances after 9 months, firstly, I only thought that she at a lot only. ...
So, you have to think whether to put you at risk or warm her or change a new domestic helper.
Today, I asked my maid to take out all the dishes for me to check, since I have realized I lost some nice forks and spoons. When she took out the stuffs, I realized I lost 3 bowls, 2 dipping dishes, maybe some knives etc. I took photos of every items in the kitchen and asked her not to loose them anymore. I also asked her not to open my closet and drawers and only let me take out the clothes for her to wash and iron. I will call up the agent and tell her the incident (jeans, lost of kitchen stuffs and she doesn't want to repay the loan) and see what she thinks.
I will also check my clothes carefully tonite and see if there are any missing items.
This is my first time hiring maid and I thought foreign maids will be more behaved for the first few months but I was wrong. I should stop her unpack my stuffs in the beginning.
