我的妹妹一家已移民 SF 四 年了,我的女兒(12yrs, G1 /2010 in HK) 亦想到SF 讀書,但我巳查過最平都要 12 萬一年(唔計生活费), 我有朋友叫我等阿女讀 High School 時直接飛過去 SF 揾政府學校收, 之後每隔半年 (放 term break)時回港, 咁就慳番啲學费, 留番啲錢上大學, 但我很怕每次入境時被海關留難女兒(因手持旅行 visa).
請各位提供意見參考 ? 到埗後我可否揾律師擔保嗎?
she would need to get an F1 (foreign student) visa in order to come to US to study. only some private high schools can issue I-20 for you to apply for the F1 visa from the US Consulate. definitely public schools won't be able to issue I-20. not sure if some public schools will have the exchange student program which might be an exception to this case, but still you would need to get a J visa.
anyway, S.F. is not a good place for a foreign student to learn English. Chinese is the majority in S.F. and most people speak Cantonese or Mandarin Chinese there.
Texas may be an economical alternative. My friend's daughter, aged 15, applied for the EF exchange student programme to study in Texas. She studies in a private high school and lives in a host family. She plans to stay there to finish high school and university education.
