Does anyone know if you can get a mortgage / a mortgage pre-approval in Canada if you're earning an income in HK? We are new PRs (landed 6 months ago), working in HK, but hope to buy a house in Canada.
if you have account with HSBC, most probably they will do the mortgage approval with you. that's what we did when we first come.
but since you are still in HK, why u want to buy a house in Canada? are you planning to settle here for good?
no i set up the HSBC canada account in HK before i left but no $$ in the account as i wait for my MPF and other $$ to finalize and mentioned to the staff i will wire the $$ over thru them.
so when i go searching for house, i go to the HSBC canada to seek advise, saying my $$ still in hK, so what can we do. and they cross check the file (take few days) and get back to us saying o.k. for the pre-aprroval mortgage of $250K, but after i show them my employee letter (to confirm a steady income). my approval limit increase to $300K
You may try TD Canada Trust also. I'm Canadian citizen and my husband is not and we both live in HK. We don't have any bank account with them either but they pre-approved us and gave us 80% mortgage after we gave them income proof, etc. Good luck!
k1san2 -> not quiet understand yr question. i got my pre-approval while i already landed in Canada. and why should i file tax in HK as i pull my root out from it and move to canada. so only file tax in my new home country - i.e. canada
