URGENT - working mother pump/feed schedule & how to邊餵邊泵

URGENT !!! HELP !!!

I will go back to work next week
這幾日模擬上班的餵奶及泵奶
found that the milk volume begins to 入不敷支

1. I want to know your daily pump/feed schedule for reference

2. Also, heard that some mothers can 邊餵邊泵
I tried this using a Medela mini electric pump, but could only pump about 3-4 oz (few days ago, used to have 4 oz each time, but droped to 3 oz today !!!)
---> I want to ask how you 邊餵邊泵 (how to pose BB & pump & which pump u use)

more to add :
- I found that the medela mini electric pump is so noisy + disturbing & afraid that BB cannot enjoy 埋身餵 at the same time

- I got one Avent hand pump & one Medela mini electric pump, what is your suggestion ?
e.g. use electric pump at home & use hand pump at work ? (I want to pump as much milk as possible in the shortest time )

no worries. Since you are still feeding your baby therefore, the milk that you pumped is extra to what your baby drinks. Therefore, it should be fine. Don't give so much stress to yourself.

Suggest you to direct feed your baby as much as possible, as this is the best way to stimulate the milk production. In addition, you can pump more milk when you pump both side at the same time.

I used Medela pump to 邊餵邊泵 and at first my baby did get distracted and fight with the pump. Later on, she adapt to it. I always tell her to concentrate, otherwise the pump will drink all her milk

Now whenever I pump, she want to be fed as well.

do u feed BB when you are sitting up right ?

i find it difficult (and tiring) to hold my BB in one arm, then use my oth
er hand to hold the pump at the same time !!

Hi ssvyonne,

When I resumed duty after my maternity leave, my b was 2 months old. I remembered this is my approximate pumping schedule:

7:00am 邊餵邊泵
1:00pm Pump both sides during lunch using 2 pumps
7:00pm Pump one side
9:00pm Feed baby with the other side not pumped
1:00am 邊餵邊泵

During Sundays or holidays, I'll directly bf all day long.

My baby will need 3 bottles of milk when I'm out at work. He drank 5.5oz to 6oz each meal at that time. So you need to estimate the amount your baby will consume during daytime and see if your pumping schedule can really work to produce enough amount. My production sometimes can't provide all 3 bottles. I'll give a meal of formular. So don't press yourself too much !! Relax and try your best!

7:00 am 埋身
10:00 am bottle

係未你o地訓練佢一餐吃多d，所以隔咁耐才吃一餐?
我個b要2.5-3hrs吃4-5安，仲要吃埋夜奶。

My BB schedule is like this :

6:30 am 埋身
11:30 am bottle
2:30 pm bottle
5:30 pm bottle
8:30 pm 埋身
10:00 pm 埋身

My BB also 要 2.5-3 hrs 吃 4-5 oz

My working hour is 9:00 am - 5:30 pm

Yesterday, I tried to pump milk at :
- 6:15 am pump one side (3 oz)
(then 埋身 feed BB with another side at 6:30-7:00 am,
as I find that 邊餵邊泵 is really difficult to handle & makes both BB & me nervous)
- 7:00 am pump remaining milk from both sides (1 oz)
- 11:00 am both sides (6 oz)
-3:00 pm both sides (7 oz)
- 11:00 pm both sides (after BB has enjoyed all the milk milk for the day) (1 oz)

In this way, I can have more milk (lets say 16-18 oz) than what I need (5 oz x 3 bottles)

In the past few days, I pumped in the following way (as I'm afraid that in the office, I can only pump at lunch hour 1:00 -2:00 pm) :

- 7:00 am (邊餵邊泵) (3 oz)
- 1:00 pm both sides (6 oz)
- 6:30 pm one side (4 oz)
- 11:00 pm - 12:00 am (c 泵 lan 泵 but only 1.5-2 oz)

This is not good as I have to 追奶 after I come back from office, and even cannot pump enough milk.... Also, if I pump too much at 6:30 pm, then there may not be enough milk for BB to drink.

Therefore, hope that I can pump milk in the office at 11:00 am & 3:00 pm la, if so, I will not 谷奶 in the office. And, the pump milk time will not overlap with BB's 埋身 feeding time

Hi ssyvonne,

Same as u, i was so worry about pump/feed schedule before resume to work. But... everything seems perfect now, supply > demand. I start pump milk for storage one month before going to work, my freezer is now occupied by milk bags, my schedule is:

6:30 am 埋身 (direct feed 1 side or both & the then pump another (3-4oz)
10:30 -11:30 am bottle
12:30 pm pump both side (6-7oz)
2:30 - 3:30 pm bottle
5:00 pm pump both sides (6 oz)
7:00 - 7:30pm bottle
11:30 pm bottle (breastmilk/formula)
12:00 am pump both sides (6-7oz)

My BB needs 5 oz for every 3.5-4 hours. It is too hard to 邊餵邊泵 & make bb nervous, pump milk after feeding your bb is also O.K. I use Avent manual pump.

Don't worry, take it easy!

I think the 餵奶枕 is very useful when 邊餵邊泵 because BB can just laid down on the 餵奶枕 and I can use one hand to hold BB's head and another hand is holding the pump. The one hand that holding the BB shouldn't be tried if the position is correct.

Yes, 餵奶枕 is very useful when 邊餵邊泵.
I let BB lay down on the 餵奶枕 so that I could free one hand and use the other hand to hold the pump.

I use the free hand to apply the daily eye cream, face lotion, neck lotion to my face to save time in the morning.

U don't understand what I mean??
I first get everything ready (the pump, daily lotion, tissue) around the bed, then sit on the bed, place the 餵奶枕 on my leg, let my bb laying down on the 餵奶枕. When bb is sucking on one side, I free this hand and use the pump then. Use the free hand to do whatever i like.

Hope u understand what i mean.

Tingfai, you are so EFFICIENT, see if I can do the same after I have adapted to the daily pump schedule

Well, let me report my latest status :

I've returned to work for 1 week. So far, I can still pump enough milk for my BB. I find that it is very important not to put too much stress on myself and have more rest !!

For example, since I can pump enough milk at 7am(home), 11am(office) & 3pm(office), then I won't pump before bedtime (as I direct feed my BB with both sides before bedtime). I would rather go to bed earlier than to just pump 1 oz out before bedtime.

For me, Avent manual pump works better than Medela mini electric pump.
To save more time, I bought one more Avent manual pump, then, steam both Avent pumps & bring them to office.

My mother in law 煲魚湯with 瓜 for me every other day. I find this increase my supply a bit for the day !

I'll try to keep on breast feeding. Good luck to me & to all BF mamas !!
