My indonesia maid got caught for stolen food from supermarket. I'm not sure whether she's the one who stole or her friend because she's been with us for 1.5 years and never stole anything at home. She's quite lazy at times but she treats my son very nice. Anyway, immigration department told me that they will not extend her visa for employment in HK. What should I do? Should I tell her the truth or should I just terminate her contract immediately?
I know the case because it happened on Sunday, her working day (she's off on Sat). She went to supermarket for grocery shopping before noon and called me at about 4:00 (we went swimming with my son) that she's still out and had to come back later. I asked her why and she said she'll tell me when she came back. We came back home at 5:00 and she's not back yet. Half an hour later we received a call from a policeman telling us that she was caught at a supermarket and was at the police station and need to go to the police station again for evidence testing, etc ... finally she came back at 6:30. We asked her what's happening and she said she didn't take anything but the security found two packs of chocolate in her shopping bag. We found it's strange and actually we think she just pretended to be innocent. (you know, most of the maids are big liar!) but you can never know the truth! She went to the police station two days later and when she came back she told us that the case is settled and she's found not guilty. As she takes care of my boy really well, so we just let her stay and see. Two months ago, we received a letter from Immigration Dept. (attention to her). We asked her to open the letter and that letter was asking her to go for an interview. I called Immigration and asked why they asked her to go for interview and the lady asked me if I knew my maid had a case. I said yes and then the lady told me that my maid was judged guilty and the interview was to tell my maid that she will not get her working visa extended when her contract expired with us and she cannot find another new employer too. I told the lady that I'm afraid if they tell her that will affect her emotion and I'm kind of worried about my boy (we're working parents). Then the immigration lady said she'll tell my maid in another way that based on her case they'll re-assess her application when she applied for extension.
Should I go to hire a new maid and then ask her to leave immeidately (with one more month's salary)? Do I need to tell the agent about my action? (My agent is no good at all) Can I buy her an air ticket to leave in two days after since she won't be able to get new employment (14 days allowance is only for those to find new employment?)
Thanks for your advice. I'll start to look for a new maid then ask her to leave immeidately. Of course I'll pay her one month extra salary. My child's safety is far more important than that!
