Bintan is an island belonging to Indonesia. You need to take a 1 hour ferry from Singapore. The resort was nice and comfortable, standard Club Med.
Phuket is probably nearer to the airport by comparison. Have not been to Phuket Club Med.
I just returned from Bintan club med. Bintan has direct access to the beach, the activities there were fantastic. My friend joined the one in PHuket, she said it was old. You may check with clubmed directly to see how the renovation to be carried out in Phuket.
If your child is nearly 4 years old, then I would suggest joining mini club med (4-7 yrs old) as this program is has a lot more fun and is challenging. Furthermore, your child could also stay with their "G.O" for lunch and dinner, while for petit club children, parents have to stay with them in the same restaurant. So kids joining mini-club would allow parents to have more time to join activities themselves. Ask if club med would allow your child to join this one if you would like to, although if it is allowed, then you need to pay child package fees.
Another pt to consider is the Phuket one has easy access to restaurants and little shopping in Kata, so in case you get bored with the food at club med, you could still go out. While the Bintan resort is in the middle of nowhere.
I've checked with the price offered by the agent and club med, the variations only lies in the air ticket prices. So if you're able to get special air tickets prices, then booking directly with club med's land packages may be a better deal than thru agents.
I just book a club med package to Bintan for 2 adult and 2 children. We will depart in Dec, a week before X'mas. Without air tickets, the total price is HKD13,952.00 (4 night in Club Med). After I check the price of air ticket, I book a package included air tickets which $9171.00 for an adult, $3,551 for my 2 yr old boy and $6791 for my 4 yr old girl. We will stay in 2 connecting superior rooms. I hope this is a good deal.
There is nothing around club med bintan. All you could do is staying inside for activities and food, or you pay extra for excursion. But in Bintan, there isn't anything worth seeing.
